KOTA KINABALU: Sabah received a total of RM1.05 million in contribution from the Sarawak government as well as the People’s Republic of China Kuala Lumpur Embassy and Kota Kinabalu Consul General here, yesterday.

Special Tasks Minister Datuk Teo Chee Kang, who received both contributions on behalf of the state government yesterday, said: “We would like to express our appreciation, for the show of friendship, goodwill and show of support to the people of Sabah and the Sabah state government, in these challenging times as we face the natural disaster.”

The Sarawak government contributed RM1 million while the China Kuala Lumpur Embassy and Kota Kinabalu Consul General here contributed RM50,000.

“The contribution is Sarawak’s commitment to the state government to take care of the problems that have occurred at Mount Kinabalu and for the victims of the quake. The contribution is also an indication of closeness between the two governments,” said Sarawak Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Naroden Majais.

“I and Datuk Misnu with our Sarawak delegation, on behalf of the state government and the people of Sarawak, would like to express our condolences to the state government, especially, to the victims involved in the Mount Kinabalu quake that has recently happened.

“We sympathize and pray that such incidents would not happen again,” added Noraden, who is also Sarawak Resource Planning Assistant Minister.

Meanwhile, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu Chen Peijie expressed hope that their RM50,000 contribution would also be utilized to help with the education recovery in the affected areas.

“We hope the sum would be useful in the recovery of schools affected and damaged by the earthquake. We also hope this small assistance could help, to an extent, the schools and children.

“Through this handing over, we just want to show our goodwill and support to the Sabah people and Sabah state government as the bilateral relationship has been very good and cordial between China and Malaysia. Also in the past, there has been a lot of mutual help in events so we just do the same thing,” said Chen.
