Man jailed over concealed stolen items

KOTA KINABALU: A 24-year-old man was sentenced to five months in jail by a Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for assisting in the concealment of several stolen items.

Abdul Rahman Datu Kiram, who was brought before magistrate Mohd Faiz Omar, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years and also liable to a fine upon conviction.

The accused had kept a stolen DVD player and fan belonging to a man in a house at a village in Likas here on March 9.

The facts of the case stated that on the same day, the victim, who went home from work, found out that someone had broken into his house.

He then lodged a police report after discovering the items, which were in the house, had been stolen.

Information received by the police led to the arrest of the accused, who had been caught with the items, on May 10 this year and he had confessed to keeping the items.

In a separate case, a youth was jailed for three months for possessing a knuckleduster at a village in Likas here on April 1.

The magistrate imposed the sentence on Asbin Sahadin after he admitted to a charge under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 which provides for a jail term of up to two years, as well as whipping.
