KUCHING: Innovative and Creative Circle (ICC/KIK) has proven to be able to create working culture with high performance and teamwork in the civil service to produce excellent and efficient service to the people.

State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani said the role of the civil service was to bring development and services for the betterment of the people.

“KIK is a tool for us to improve our services. Through KIK, we are already stepping far ahead in our transformation effort and what we have created are all meant for the people.

“I hope other agencies will also practise this culture (KIK),” he said at the prize-giving ceremony of the ‘Southern Zone Innovation and Creative Circle (ICC/KIK) Convention at one of the leading hotels here yesterday.

He said innovation could bring victory and success to an organisation. Director of the Chief Minister’s Department State Modern Service Unit, William Patrick Nyigor, said a total of 86 teams were involved in this year’s convention which was held in three regions, namely, northern region in Lawas, middle region in Mukah and southern region in Kuching.

He said the culture of innovation in the state was growing positively in the community of unity and diversity.

“In efforts to inculcate innovation at work throughout Sarawak, we organised this convention for the first time in Lawas,” he said, adding that from this zone, only the top 20 teams would proceed to the State ICC/KIK Convention in October.

He expressed his pride that the Sarawak ICC team had dominated the national convention since 2011 with the latest achievement in October last year, when the ‘Southern Thinker’ team from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) emerged first place in the technical category with their gardening tool called ‘Tugalizer’.

The tool replaces the use of the conventional hoe to expedite the process of fertilising the landscape, making it a very handy, easy-to-use and have commercial values.

Morshidi said their next challenge was to compete at international level in Korea in October.

Meanwhile, the ‘Karabau’ team from Limbang District Office emerged champion in the ‘Resident Office and District Zone’ category.

In the ‘Federal Agency Zone’ (Management) category, the winner was ‘Q-STATS’ team from Department of Statistic, Kuching.

As for the ‘Federal Agency Zone’ (Technical) category, the ‘Swan’ team from Sibu Education District Office was the winner.

‘Sassoku 14’ from Land and Survey Department Kuching was the champion in the ‘State Agency Zone’ (Management) category, while ‘Help 4’ team from Public Works Department (Miri) was champion in the ‘State Agency Zone’ (Technical) category.
