Police raid on illegal lottery operation nets fireworks, firecrackers

SIBU: A police raid on an illegal lottery operation on Wednesday resulted in the seizure of 15 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers.

A coffee shop in Permai Jaya here was raided at 6pm following a tip-off. They caught a 34-year-old man suspected of illegal activities.

A 43-year-old woman who arrived at the shop purportedly to buy lottery was also detained.

She was released after a statement was recorded.

In the raid, police seized eight pieces of paper written with lottery numbers, two handphones, a calculator, three pens and RM358.

They also seized fireworks and firecrackers from a store on the first floor.

In an unrelated case, a ship crew member was feared to have drowned after he fell into the Lanang River on Wednesday.

The missing man was identified as Paing Zaw Zaw, 25, from Myanmar.

Search operation started at 12.30pm on Wednesday and is continuing.
