SIBU: Sibu is trying to break into the Malaysia Book of Records with its ‘Largest Coffee Drinking Event’ at Sibu Town Square Phase II on Sept 19.

The event is jointly organised by Lung Si Association, ITA College, and Junior Chamber International (JCI) Seduan.

According to the main organiser Michael Lee from Lung Si Association, the event would be held in conjunction with ‘1Aman Week’ organised by the Royal Malaysia Police.

“In this event, we will attempt to break the current record of 4,261 participants at Tenom in Sabah.

“Our attempt is to have a minimum of 5,115 participants to break the current record,” he told the press conference on Friday.

JCI Seduan president Timothy Wong encouraged the people of Sibu to join in this event for fun-sake.

“We have so many coffee shops in Sibu and many like coffee very much.  So, the event is just the tonic for them to come together for coffee and fun,” he said.

He said on the JCI side, they have whipped up publicity on the social media to gather coffee-lovers for the toast.

Meanwhile, president of Lung-Si Association Dato Sri Dr Benny Lee said it would be a meaningful event, especially in bringing the people of Sibu together.

“It is a dream for us.  We had been talking about it last year that we wanted to do something to break the record,” he said.

According to him, ITA College currently holds two records in the Malaysia Book of Records.

They are the longest rope skipping (24 hours) and the longest anatomy quiz (24 hours).

“We did not break those records, we actually created the records and no one has attempted to break them as yet,” he enthused.

Meanwhile, thus far on the police side, about 3,651 are expected to join in this event.

The ‘Largest Coffee Drinking Event’ is sponsored by Kapal Api Coffee, Howddy 4G Hotspot, and AppCollection.
