Top coaches, experts, speakers to share expertise in May conference

KUCHING: The Sarawak Sports Corporation will be hosting the Sukma International Sports Science and 2nd Malaysian Sports Psychology Conference at IPGKTAR in Kota Samarahan from May 10-12 next year.

The SSC will be collaborating with the Institute of Teacher Education Tun Abdul Razak Campus (IPGKTAR) Institute of Teacher Education Batu Lintang Campus and UiTM Sarawak to host the ‘two-in-one’ conference themed “Enhancing Sports Science, Sports Psychology in Sports, Physical Activities and Health”.

Held in conjunction with Sarawak hosting Sukma XVIII, the three-day conference aims to provide a good opportunity for sports practitioners, coaches and academicians to interact and share their findings and expertise in sports, physical activities and health.

This conference will feature a number of internationally renowned keynote speakers such as Prof Zhang Liwei from Beijing Sports University (China), Prof Peter Terry from University of Southern Queenland (Australia), Prof Frank Lu from the Chinese Culture University (Taiwan) and Prof Low Wah Yun from University of Malaya (M’sia).

Apart from the keynote speakers, the invited speakers are Dr Maria Guinto-Adviento (University of the Philippines), Dr Lim Boon Hooi (UM), Dr Teo Eng Wah (UM), Assoc Prof Hairul Anuar Hashim (USM), Dr Garry Guan Pei Ern (USM), Dr Mohd Nidzam Jawis (USM), Dr Ayu Sazailina Muhamad (USM), Dr Jeffrey Low Fook Lee (UPSI), Dr Ler Hui Yin (TAR University College), Dr Jolly Roy (ISN) and Rebecca Wong (ISN).

In addition, this conference has integrated the 2nd Malaysian Sports Psychology Conference which is a follow-up of the 1st Malaysian Sports Psychology Conference at USM from Sept 6-9.

The conference is held prior to Sukma XVIII, which Sarawak is hosting from July 22–31 next year.

It is endorsed by the Asian-South Pacific Association of Sports Psychology and all its council members from all over Asian-South Pacific Region will be attending the conference.

It also involves paralympic sport to provide a forum of exchange between sports scientists and practitioners in the field of sport for paralympic athletes.

IPGKTAR director and chairperson Hamsiah Abdullah Masni expressed her gratitude to SSC chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee, who is also the co-chair for the conference, for his continuous collaboration with IPGKTAR as well as IPGBL and UiTM Sarawak for their contributions towards the development of sports science and sports psychology in Sarawak.

Ong commended Hamsiah and Dr Chin for their strong commitment in organising sports science conferences for the past years, Dana Raja Narayanasamy (IPGBL) and Gordon Nicholaus Jemat Anchang (UiTM Sarawak) for their on-going support and cooperation in hosting this conference.

He also called upon all sports organisations, institutions and companies to attend the conference.

The call for abstracts to submit oral or poster presentation is now open at sissmspc2016.ipgmktar.edu.my.

Submission deadline for abstract is Dec 15, 2015 and participants will be notified of acceptance by Dec 30, 2015.

There is an early bird registration fee of RM350 for locals and US$200 for foreign participants and RM100 for local students before March 21, 2016. More than 400 local and foreign delegates are expected at the conference.
