KUCHING: The public should make it a point to contribute to the Warriors Fund as a sign that they appreciate the contributions and sacrifices by army veterans in defending the country against subversive elements.

This call was made by Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Anthony Nogeh Gumbek at the launch of Veterans Association of Malaysian Armed Forces (PVATM) Tasik Biru branch Warriors Fund Raising Campaign 2015 in Bau recently.

“Without them (veterans) we will not be able to live in peace and harmony like we do today. All these have been achieved through their contributions and sacrifices, so as a sign of our appreciation we should contribute to the fund,” he said.

He said the fund was to assist underprivileged veterans, including their family members, who required assistance.

Meanwhile, the Mas Gading MP announced a grant of RM10,000 from his minor rural project (MRP) to PVATM Tasik Biru for their activities.

In his speech, he also thanked the State Welfare Department for giving some financial assistance to more than 100 deserving veterans from PVATM Tasik Biru branch, their widows and children.

Among others attending the event was Veteran Affairs Department (JHEV) director general Major General Datuk Mohd Noor Daud who bestowed Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) on selected veterans.

Other guests included Bau district officer Inting Nyami and other senior government officers.

Earlier, PVATM Tasik Biru branch chairman Jossem Daweg expressed his greatest gratitude to Nogeh, Mohd Noor and representative from State Welfare Department for their presence which made the event a success.
