Student killed after man in suicide leap lands on his car

MELAKA: An UiTM student was killed on impact when a man jumped to his death from the 13th floor of a hotel in Banda Hilir, here, yesterday morning and landed on his (student’s) car roof.

Melaka Tengah police chief, ACP Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said in the 11am incident, the student, Arfan Syazani Salahudin, 19, had just arrived at the car park of the hotel in his Perodua Viva before a man who had leapt from the hotel fell right on top of his car.

“The impact of the fall damaged part of the car roof, crushing the victim who was a part-time employee at the hotel.

“The victim suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 43-year-old man who fell on the car was also seriously injured and succumbed to his injuries at 3pm while being treated at Melaka Hospital,” he told reporters, here, yesterday.

Shaikh Abdul Adzis said the man from Bukit Katil, here, who was believed to have jumped from the 13th floor had checked into the hotel alone at about 9.40am yesterday.

He said the death of the student from Bukit Rambai, here, was classified as sudden death and the incident was being investigated.

Meanwhile, the mother of Arfan Syazani, Aslina Ansari, 43, said her son was on his Semester Three break from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Dungun and had been working at the hotel for about two weeks.

Aslina said her son’s remains would be buried at the Muslim cemetery in Bukit Cina, here. — Bernama
