MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) has spent some RM20 million to upgrade and maintain roads in its jurisdiction this year.
Its mayor Lawrence Lai said the roads upgrading and maintenance works were an ongoing process, implemented in stages.
“We have so far spent some RM20 million this year to upgrade, maintain and resurface the roads in the city including implementing the road maintenance project under Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris),” he told the media when met during the council’s meet-the-people session at Mosjaya Commercial Centre here on Friday.
Replying to the request of Kampung Tukau residents to resurface their main road, Lai said the council would include the stretch under the provision for next year’s project.
He said the council was aware that the road leading to the village had not been tarred yet.
“We will pave the road after receiving the allocation for road resurfacing project next year.”
Lai said the council received 10 complaints on various issues during the session. Most of the complaints were directed to the engineering section.
The complaints included drain maintenance, grass cutting, public health, unlicensed premises, landscape and unlicensed hawkers.
