SIBU: Sibu police chief ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi yesterday said the recent fighting case at a pub in Kampung Dato Road which resulted in damage to a house in Pipit Road and serious injury to a man had nothing to do with gangsterism.
At a press conference after officiating at the police monthly parade at the police headquarters here, he said a video clip on the incident had gone viral on social media and seven persons had been arrested in connection with the case.
“There was no gangsterism in these two cases as the persons involved were a pub owner, his two sons and their customers,” Kamal pointed out.
“The situation was controlled, and we have detained seven persons within hours,” he added, saying they were the pub owner and his two sons, a businessman and his three friends aged 19 to 54.
The 31-year-old businessman accompanied by his wife in her 20s and a few friends were drinking at a pub in Kampung Dato Road at 11.30pm on Saturday when a cashier approached and told him he had not paid for a carton of beer which cost RM230.
This led to a fight between the two groups – the businessman and his friends and the pub owner and his two sons.
Kamal said the quarrel boiled over to the businessman’s house in Pipit Road where the pub owner and his two sons allegedly smashed a car and damaged properties in the house with two wooden sticks and a golf club.
CCTV footage showed them taking a fire extinguisher from the car porch to smash the car.
However, three family members in a room downstairs were spared.
As they were leaving the house, it was alleged that the group attacked one of the two friends of the businessman, seriously injuring him on the back of his head.
