KUCHING: The residents of Rumah Seri Kenangan received what they wanted for Christmas as a team from CityONE Megamall came bearing presents.

“They asked for such simple things. Little things like a new pair of shorts,” said Kenbest Sdn Bhd managing director Stephen Long, when speaking to reporters.

The project team had compiled a wish list from the residents of the old folk’s home and gave mall patrons a chance to fulfil a wish by referring to the wish tags hung on a specific Christmas tree on the Ground Floor Concourse.

The shoppers delivered, and a 20-member team from CityONE Megamall not only brought the presents that the old folk asked for, but an additional donation of daily necessities and refreshments.

There was also a donation of RM1,200 raised in the Christmas Charity Fun Fitness event that involved Amber Studio, Kinesis Studio and Step Up Studio.

“Kuching people truly have big hearts for the elderly,” Long remarked, brimming with pride.

Others who contributed were Optimo, Apple Gift House, Tao Bao House, and the mall’s management. The project leader was the mall’s A&P executive Vivia Cheong who said that they want to encourage the public to remember the old folks during the festive season.

Also present were Kenbest general manager Anthony Yong, CityONE Megamall general manager Brandon Lo, and Rumah Seri Kenangan principal Dariel Tiong. According to Tiong, there are 32 male and 32 female residents at their temporary home at Samarahan Rehabilitation Centre while waiting for completion of their new centre at KM20 Jalan Kuching-Serian.
