KUCHING: The Sentosa World Sports Centre at Jalan Stakan opens its doors today (Friday, Jan 15) to offer indoor sports lovers inline skating, indoor archery, archery tag and drift go-karting.

The new sports centre, which sits on a 12-acre site together with the Sentosa Sports Centre, was converted from an eight-court futsal centre.

“Our main attractions are the more than 10,000-square foot skating rink, which is of world standard and is ranked fifth in the world in terms of size and capacity, and the 57-lane indoor archery target field,” Sentosa World Sports Sdn Bhd director Avin Liu said on Wednesday.

Liu said the skating rink can accommodate up to 120 people at any time and the RM25 fee per entry includes the rental of skates.

“For those who wish to learn how to skate, we have licensed coaches Terence Cheung and Choo Kien Lam to guide them,” he said.

Cheung, 26, from Singapore, is Asean Freestyle Championship 2013 speed slalom champion; while 24-year-old Choo, from Kuala Lumpur, is Malaysia National Championship 2013 freestyle pairs slalom champion and Malaysian Roller Skaters Association head.

The 18-metre indoor archery target field is also of world standard, the biggest in Malaysia and can be used to host international competitions. There are TV screens from which archers can check their scores and for coaches to teach beginners how to shoot.

“Those seeking more thrill and excitement can go for the draft go-karting, which is relatively quite safe and the archery tag, a new sport that is becoming popular in Europe especially in the US,” said Liu.

The centre has an archery pro-shop, which offers a wide range of archery products, a multifunction room for birthday parties and corporate events, and the Warung Atap Cafe, which offers a range of Malaysian, Indonesian and Western food.

“We do not serve pork or alcohol here,” stressed Liu.

There is also ample parking with 60 parking bays in the centre and another 100 bays at the Sentosa Sports Centre, which is just across the road. To mark the soft opening today, there will be a promotional price until Sunday for inline skating at just RM12 per entry.

Normal prices apply for the archery target field at RM38, RM18 per head for archery tag and RM18 per head for go-karting.

“We are offering the lowest rates in Malaysia and one can just buy the entry tickets at the counter and literally spend the whole day here as we have a cafe to provide food and drinks,” he added.

The centre will open daily from 11am to 11pm except on major festive holidays such as Chinese New Year, Gawai and Hari Raya Aidilfitri. For enquiries, call Liu on 012-8861278 or 082-615978.
