Dato Gerawat Gala
KUCHING: The Kelabit community is delighted to note that Dato Gerawat Gala is named the direct Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the new seat of Mulu.
Gerawat has served the Kelabit, Orang Ulu and Dayak communities selflessly and tirelessly over many years and is a deserving candidate with a sterling track record for community work.
As a community, president of Rurum Kelabit Sarawak Datuk Isaac Lugun, said they fully supported his candidacy.
The Kelabit community is perhaps the smallest minority group in Sarawak with only about 1,900 registered voters.
“We are not even the majority in this new Mulu seat. Therefore, we would like to place on record our gratitude to the chief minister for making a special dispensation to name a Kelabit as the direct BN candidate for the constituency,” he said through a press statement yesterday.
More importantly, they would like to extend their gratitude to other communities in Mulu because “… we will have to count on them to make this aspiration for political representation a reality.”
