KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party calls on voters to give it a chance to serve the people by electing its candidates contesting in 13 seats this state election.

SUPP Central Election Committee chief Datuk Matthew Chen said the 13 candidates were ‘a new team formed from the party’s transformation plan’.

“This new team consists of various professionals such as doctor, professor, lawyers and businessmen who are capable in their respective fields. It is also the first time in the party’s history that we have so many young and new faces contesting in the state election,” he told a press conference at party’s headquarters here yesterday.

The 13 candidates are SUPP president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian for Batu Kawah, secretary general Dato Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew (Piasau), Peter Pau (Padungan), Milton Foo Tiang Wee (Pending), Sih Hua Tong (Batu Lintang), Wilfred Yap Yau Shin (Kota Sentosa), Lo Khere Chiang (Batu Kitang), Francis Harden (Simanggang), Chieng Buong Toon (Bukit Assek), Datuk Dr Lee Kim Shin (Senadin), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya (Jemoreng), Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii (Repok) and Datuk Pau Chiong Ung (Tanjong Batu).

Chen, who is also SUPP organising secretary, said it was only fair if the 13 candidates were given the chance to prove their sincerity to the people.

“If they are not given the chance, how do you know whether they can serve (the people) or not and whether SUPP is strong or not?” he asked.

“It is only by giving them a chance, to be fair to SUPP. Whether they can or not, you can judge them after five years.

“SUPP, as one of BN component parties, abides to BN guides and we will concentrate in our 13 seats to make sure we win for BN Sarawak.”

He also said as a member of the coalition, the party would not ‘disturb’ other constituencies unrelated to the party.

Chen also said the party would be releasing its manifesto after Nomination Day on April 25.
