KUCHING: Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabtu Osman has confirmed that the third body recovered from the site of the helicopter crash belongs to Ahmad Sobri Haron, the bodyguard of deputy minister Datuk Noriah Kasnon.

He said the identity of the victim was confirmed based on a police warrant card found inside the victim’s pocket.

“Ahmad Sobri, 26, was a constable from the police Guard and Escort division who has been attached with the late minister for about five years.

“His warrant card was found in the pocket of his jeans, which allowed us to identify him immediately,” he said to reporters during a press conference at 4.15pm today (May 7), adding that Ahmad’s body was recovered not far from where Noriah’s body was found yesterday.

Mohammad Sabtu further confirmed that a fourth body was found at 3.26pm and is on the way to being airlifted to state police headquarters, where it will then be sent to the Sarawak General Hospital.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police force will be assisting the family of the deceased by flying his body back to his hometown of Kuala Terengganu.

“If a police personnel is involved in a fatal incident, we will be assisting with the handling and burial of the deceased,” said Khalid when met at the Sarawak General Hospital morgue.
