KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has paid a glowing tribute to Plantation Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister Datuk Noriah Kasnon, describing her as a leader of calibre whose passing was a great loss to both party and government.
Shahrizat said Noriah, 52, who was also member of parliament (MP) for Sungai Besar, Selangor, was a person of integrity who fulfilled her responsibilities as a politician.
“The last time we met three weeks ago, she seemed very cheerful and joked with other Umno members. I am very shocked as she left us at such a young age, but this has been destined, and she died on the auspicious night of Isra’ Mikraj,” she told reporters at the TUDM Subang Base here Friday night.
Earlier, Noriah’s remains arrived at the air base about 11.40pm from Kuching.
The body was taken to Parit Dua, Sungai Burung in Tanjung Karang for burial. — Bernama
