KUCHING: The suspect in a murder case in Padawan was remanded for seven days yesterday to facilitate the police investigation.
Magistrate Zulhairil Sulaiman allowed the remand application for the 53-year-old labourer from Kampung Plaman Dunuk in Padawan to be detained in police custody until next Thursday.
The man is believed to have caused the death of Sasok Bayur, also 53, during an incident in the village on Gawai Eve.
A team of police from Padawan District and the state police headquarters apprehended the suspect at his house around 6pm on Thursday.
It is understood that the deceased was slashed on the right side of his neck with a sharp object following a heated argument.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which provides for a mandatory death sentence.
