KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) will hold a youth empowerment session entitled “Waste & Our Generation” here today.
The session is part of the Empowerment Series organised by The Champions and Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) in collaboration with the Sarawak Development Institute (SDI), Trienekens, the Natural Resource and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak and the International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences (AIESEC) Kuching.
The Empowerment Series are informal talks and sessions seeking to empower young people with knowledge and awareness about relevant social problems and issues faced by the community today.
This particular session focuses on educating young people about local waste management efforts and raising their awareness about steps and measures that should be taken to care for mother earth. Guest speakers from local authorities like Trienekens will share with students about the local waste management system and facilitate their understanding about the financial and environmental costs in keeping the city clean.
Students will also be taught about waste segregation where they learn to identify and separate the types of waste produced in addition to measuring the amounts of different wastes generated.
Besides that, a representative from NREB Sarawak will also be sharing about the effects of landfills and leachate on our daily lives and the environment.
