LAWAS: Perkim Lawas branch presented raya goodies and cash to 303 recipients while Lembaga Amanah Khairat Islam Lawas and Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (Jais) presented contributions to 63 mosques and suraus in a Ramadan charity drive.

This was in line with the spirit of Ramadan, said Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at the presentation of raya goodies and aid at Darul Ma’mor Mosque in Lawas recently.

The goodies from Perkim Lawas branch were distributed to 195 senior citizens, 71 single mothers and 38 disabled adults in Lawas Zone while Lembaga Amanah Khairat Islam Lawas (Lakhir) and Sarawak Islamic Department (JAIS) jointly presented aid to imams and bilals from 63 mosques and suraus in Lawas district.

Saying the holy month was a time of reflection and evaluation of one’s life, the minister called on religious leaders to unite to fight social ills.

On repairs and upgrading of mosques and suraus in Lawas, he called for management committee to optimise the funds allocated.

Lakhir and JAIS through Tabung Baitumal Sarawak (TBS) presented aid to imams and bilals in 63 mosques and suraus in Lawas district.

TBS contributed RM63,000 while Lakhir contributed RM51,000 in cash and hampers.

TBS also distributed RM44.9 million in 2015 to recipients under the three programmes to seek knowledge, for the ummah’s welfare, and development of Islam in the state, with an additional RM 21.6 million as of June 17 this year. Perkim Lawas branch chairman Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud later presented raya goodies to the needy.

Also present were Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong and Lawas District Officer Hussaini Hakim and Lakhir board members.
