KUCHING: A teenager managed to avoid injuries after being pursued by armed robbers, who also allegedly tried to rape his girlfriend, during a date at the old State Legislative Assembly complex here on Wednesday night.
The 19-year-old said the incident happened around 8.30pm when four masked men suddenly appeared from the dark and pointed sharp weapons at both him and his girlfriend while demanding for their valuables.
The teen said he immediately fled while shouting loudly for help, but was then chased by two of the robbers who repeatedly swung their weapons at him but missed.
The robbers, however, disappeared back into the darkness after a passerby came to the teen’s aid and called the police for help. He then made his way back to where his girlfriend was and learned from her that the other two robbers had tried to rape her, but ran off instead with her valuables after a couple passing through the area came to her aid.
Among the items stolen included motorcycle helmets, a mobile phone, personal documents and some cash. Police are investigating after the duo filed a report of the incident.
