KOTA KINABALU: A woman died at the Likas Hospital an hour after she was hit by a three-ton lorry along Tuaran Road, near Manggatal Township, here yesterday morning.
The victim, identified as Eni Binti Daude, 46, succumbed to severe head injury in the 7.45am incident.
City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the incident happened when the lorry, heading to Rampayan from Inanam, made a turn into Manggatal Township and knocked the victim who was crossing the road.
“Police investigation revealed that the 34-year-old lorry driver was turning into Manggatal Township when he heard a woman’s scream.
“The driver then stopped the vehicle to check and found the victim lying on the road.
“The victim was immediately rushed to Likas Hospital but was pronounced dead about an hour later by doctors,” said Chandra yesterday.
Chandra added that the driver had been detained to assist police investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
