KUALA LUMPUR: Muslim contributors of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) should opt for Syariah-compliant fund management if the option is available.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said when an alternative of Islamic fund management (Syariah concept) had been made available, it should be adopted as it would always be better than the conventional concept.

“Whenever we have the Islamic option, we should make optimum use of it.

“EPF members are encouraged to change their savings scheme from the conventional system to the syariah-compliant scheme,” he told reporters after delivering a talk entitled ‘Attributes of Moderation to Counter Radicalism’ at Midas Talk 13/2016 here yesterday.

The two-hour talk focused on the threats of terrorists which are getting more rampant and difficult to predict or identify.

Registration for syariah-compliant savings scheme began yesterday at all EPF branches and open to all contributors regardless of their race, religion and nationality.

In another development, Asyraf Wajdi said the activities of Daesh militants in the country was under control, thanks to the comprehensive enforcement by local authorities.

He said the level of Malaysians’ participation in militant activities was relatively low if compared with citizens of other countries.

“We should be grateful and proud of this achievement, but at the same time, we should always be vigilant and prepare ourselves not to get involved in the militant activities,” — Bernama
