MIRI: Miri police have busted the ‘Honda Gang’ active in stealing Honda motorcycles here and reselling them to middlemen at the relatively low price of RM200 each with the arrest of nine suspects.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Johnathan Ringgit said the nine, four locals and five Indonesians, believed to be involved in these activities since 2015, were arrested in three separate places on Sept 15, Sept 17 and yesterday.

He said initial investigations revealed that the local suspects stole the motorcycles while the foreigners were middlemen and buyers.

“Following the arrest of the suspects, aged 24 to 50 years, eight Honda motorcycles estimated to be worth RM22,500 were seized,” he told reporters here yesterday.

He said after a motorcycle was stolen it would be sold to an Indonesian middleman, who would sell the stolen motorcycles to workers of an oil palm plantation in Kuala Baram near here.

“Police believe with the arrest of the suspects, a total of 21 motorcycle theft cases reported in 2015 and 2016 have been solved,” he said.

All the suspects have been remanded to facilitate investigation, he added. — Bernama
