QL Resources to offer FamilyMart franchise opportunities

KUALA LUMPUR: QL Resources Bhd will offer the FamilyMart franchise opportunities once the convenience store operations are well-established after the first two years.

The agro-food company is the master franchisee of the Tokyo-based convenience store, FamilyMart, after its unit, Maxincome Resources Sdn Bhd, signed a 20-year exclusive area franchise agreement with FamilyMart Co Ltd early this year to develop and operate the convenient store outlets in the country.

Executive director Chia Lik Khai said in the first two years, the company would focus on building the business foundation of the convenience stores.

“Initially, QL Resources will invest in the stores itself to make sure the system and operation run seamlessly.

“If the business model and brand are proven to be financially feasible, then we will open franchise business because we believe it is a win-win model for both franchise and franchisor.

“We will strive towards that once the operation is well-established in the first two years,” he told reporters after launching the Mid Valley Megamall outlet yesterday.

Earlier, it was reported that QL Resources has invested RM100 million to bring in the FamilyMart franchise and earmarked to invest RM15 million to RM20 million annually to develop the convenience stores in the country.

The company aims to set up 300 FamilyMart outlets in Peninsular Malaysia within five years.

The first outlet was opened in Wisma Lim Foo Yong here on Nov 11, 2016. — Bernama
