KUCHING: Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Children’s Home residents received a visit from Smart Reader® Worldwide recently.

According to a press release from Smart Reader® Worldwide, it is the leading provider of early childhood education’s annual tradition of celebrating Christmas with the less fortunate.

This year, Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Children’s Home was selected as venue for the celebration.

“The franchisees of Smart Reader® Worldwide were also invited to join the festivities, with a total of 30 franchise centres in Sarawak. I am just ecstatic to take part in the event,” added Sharon Chang who is a franchisee of Smart Reader Kids® Jalan Keretapi.

There are currently 98 student-residents in the home – most of them orphans, abandoned children and parental abuse victims.

Several interesting activities were lined up throughout the day for festive cheer as children also participated in decorating the Christmas tree and singing carols.

Towards the end, cookies were distributed to the kids as part of their Christmas treat and a financial contribution presented to the caretaker of the home.

“We are always looking for opportunities to spread goodwill to society, especially to assist those in need. We want to be able to contribute towards making a positive change in society,” said Norma John, manager of operations and business development for East Malaysia

During the event, deputy principal of Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah, Rosnah Mat @ Ali, thanked the Smart Reader® group, including the franchisee and parents of Smart Reader Kids® Jalan Keretapi, for their kind gesture and contributions for the children.

She hoped the good deed will motivate others to partake in similar activities, as she feels that no one should feel left out, especially during special occasions like this.

“As a caregiver, it brings joy to our lives when we see these kids happy. Apart from love and affection, showering them with Christmas gifts shows that they will always be cared for and remembered,” she said.
