MIRI: Sarawak United People’s Party, SUPP Miri-Sibuti will hold a small Chinese New gathering on Feb 3 with newly appointed Chief Minister  Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg as guest-of-honour.

SUPP Piasau secretary Karambir Singh said this year 700 people people are expected at the celebration unlike last year’s big crowd of 3,000.

“We are toning down the celebration out of respect for former chief minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who passed away early this month,” Karambir said at a joint press conference with organising chairman Erick Chin Fen Siong yesterday.

Erick said among the guests will be SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who is also Minister of Local Government and SUPP former presidents Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan and Tan Sri Peter Chin.

Others are members of the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC); exco members from the five branches of SUPP Piasau, Senadin, Pujut, Lambir and Bekenu; local dignitaries, community leaders and leaders of the Chambers of Commerce  and Industry and associations.

“The low profile gathering to celebrate the lunar New Year will be held at Imperial Hotel Ballroom from 6pm to 9pm.

Activities for the night include cultural performances,” said Chin.

The dinner is being organised by SUPP Miri and Sibuti Parliamentary Liason Committee.
