KAPIT: The police here have been praised for maintaining close rapport with local elected people’s representatives including government departments and agencies.

The accolade came from Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijan, who said the good networking has helped to promote and strengthen community policing.

Speaking when officiating at the ‘Malam Mesra Perkep 2017’ at the multi-purpose hall of Sri Baleh here recently, he advised the men in blue to uphold the highest level of integrity in their daily tasks and interaction with the people.

“Police, being a uniformed body and leading agency to enforce the law and safeguard peace and security of the community where they serve, should uphold the highest level of integrity when executing their responsibilities,” Nyabong reminded.

He lauded Kapit Perkep (Police Social Welfare Recreational and Sports Club) for organising the gathering and announced a government grant RM5,000 for the club.

The function was held to coincide with Kapit Perkep’s annual general meeting earlier in the day.

It was also to welcome Inspector Ugendran Nesaratnam to the local Criminal Investigation Department.

Among those attending the function were OCPD Kapit DSP Freddy Bian, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, Kapit district officer Elvis Didit, Bukit Mabong district officer Douglas Pungga and senior police officers,

In her speech earlier, Kapit Perkep chairperson Bibiana Michel Diway welcomed all guests to the ‘Malam Mesra Perkep 2017’ and thanked the sponsors of the dinner.

Among the activities to entertain the diners were karaoke singing and lucky draws.
