SANDAKAN: A foreign woman in her 40s died when she fell into a three-meter deep drain near Kampung Sundang, Batu Sapi here yesterday.
A spokesperson for the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department said that they received a call for help at around 1.40pm.
Abdul Kadir Halalan, who led the team, said that they saw the body of the woman in the drain when they reached the scene at 1.58pm.
“The woman had already died when we arrived. According to villagers at the scene, the woman may have fallen into the drain since the night before.
“The operation to get the body also took some time because we saw an electric wire inside the drain, so we had to wait for Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd to confirm that there was no electric current in the drain before we could continue with the operation to get the body,” he said.
The body was sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for further investigation.
“We could not confirm if the woman had died of injuries from the fall or electrocution,” Abdul added.
