M’sia seeks green technology investors

ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN:Green technology leading countries are invited to invest and collaborate with Malaysia in the green technology and energy sectors, in conjunction with their participation in Astana Expo 2017 which is held here beginning yesterday until Oct 10.

Malaysia’s Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said Malaysia  was the most forested emerging market amongst the world’s top 100 nations and according to the United States (US) news report, Malaysia was the best country to invest in.

“We don’t focus on any particular country but it’s depending on what technology they are offering, the price and partnership involving the private sector in Malaysia.

“Naturally, Green Growth is our nature and we plan to prove to the world over the next 92 days that emerging markets like Malaysia can and should be leaders of the green growth,” he said at a press conference after launching the Malaysian Pavilion at the Astana Expo 2017 here yesterday.

The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry is the lead ministry of the Malaysian Pavilion which spans about 727 square metres within the 25 hectare futuristic expo site located near Astana, the administrative city of Kazakhstan.

Ongkili said Malaysia was providing business matching sessions at the Malaysia Business Centre located at the expo, for business players from the public and private at the Malaysian Pavilion as the opportunities for them to establish cooperation.

He said Malaysia was expected to generate RM1 billion in trade and investment in Astana Expo 2017.

Ongkili said Malaysia had created  a plan and was delivering on that plan to foster green growth, with 22.1 per cent of energy generating capacity from renewable sources.

“We are global leaders in the photovoltaic value chain with a top of two and three leadership position in module and cell production,” he said.

Themed, ‘Energy of the Future’, the Astana Expo 2017 is an internationally specialised exhibition aimed to inspire global debate between  countries, non-governmental organisations, companies and the public regarding the decisive impact that energy management has on the lives of people and that of the planet.

Over 150 entities, including 62 speakers and 94 private and government organisations which are part of the Malaysian delegation to EXPO 2017, will participate in various activities lined up to promote and showcase best practices and what Malaysia has to offer in green energy. — Bernama
