Rabies vaccination carried out in 4 villages yesterday

KUCHING: Rabies vaccination was carried out in Kampung Tesu, Kampung Resu Mawang, and Kampung Mongkos in Serian and Kampung Duyoh in Bau yesterday.

The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat, in a statement, said 129 dogs were vaccinated during the operation.

Until yesterday, a total of 23,995 pets comprising 16,355 dogs, 7,595 cats and 45 other animals have been vaccinated.

The State Veterinary Services Department (JPVS) has also conducted 142 awareness campaigns on the rabies outbreak in villages and schools around the rabies-infected areas, attended by 28,657 people.  The State Health Department informed that a total of 87 new dog bite cases were reported yesterday, 63 in Serian Division, four in Sri Aman, 19 in Kuching and one in Kota Samarahan. This brings the cumulative number of dog bite cases since April until yesterday to 1,342 while 749 people have been given the anti-rabies vaccination.
