SARIKEI: The Self-Employed Employment Injury Scheme (SBKPS) introduced by Social Security Organisation (Socso) which came into effect on June 1 has yet to receive any response from the target group.
The scheme, accorded under the provisions of Self Employment Social Security Act 2017, is meant to provide social protection to the self-employed such as taxi drivers and individuals carrying out similar services.
“Response from the taxi operators in particular to the scheme is very poor,” Sarikei Division Socso manager Fenny Lim said during a ‘Seranta Programme’ held at Sarikei Innovation Centre here yesterday.
She hoped that the 35 taxi drivers in Sarikei and Bintangor would register for the scheme in order to enjoy the various benefits.
She advised them to either register online or to seek guidance from the local Socso office.
Once registered and the annual premium paid, the contributors would be insured for a period of 12 months, she added.
They have four options of insurable earnings rated at 1.25 per cent per annum; RM1,050 for which they are required to contribute RM157.20 for 12 months’ insurance coverage; RM1,550 (RM232.80); RM2,950 (RM442.80); and RM3,950 (RM592.80).
Benefits under the scheme include medical allowance, temporary disablement, permanent disablement assistance, constant attendance allowance, dependents’ assistance, funeral expenses, educational assistance, facilities for physical and vocational rehabilitation, and return to work programme (RTW).
On the Seranta Programme, Lim said it was aimed at providing a platform for the sharing of information between staff of Socso office and local clients.
It reflected their commitment in providing quality and efficient services to their clients by keeping them updated on the benefits provided by Socso, she added.
Deputy Resident Abang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman was invited to officiate at the opening ceremony.
About 40 registered employees and employers attended a briefing on iPerkeso registration requirement and process for employers and employees, and updates on new benefits presented by a senior Socso officer Abang Saiful Abang Puteh.
