MIRI: The inaugural Sarawak Music Awards (AMS) is timely in addressing the need to raise the level of music in Sarawak and to propel Sarawak into the national arts scene, said Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

Organised by JCI Sibu Jaya, the award presentation will be held at Penview Convention Center in Kuching on Dec 2.

AMS is made possible with the co-operation of Sarawak Dayak Recording Industry Association (Perisai), Bidayuh Artistes and Musicians Association (Bama) and the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK).

“Awards are given across all ethnic groups and this should be lauded,” Snowdan, who is also the Dayak Artistes and Musicians Association (DAMA) president, told The Borneo Post recently.

JCI Sibu Jaya charter president Fabian Gan, who is also the founder of AMS hopes that the event will flourish.

“This award is recognition of Sarawakian musicians from various ethnicities and genres,” said Fabian.
