MIRI:  A grand reunion of ex-students of St Joseph School here will be held on Oct 28 at Grand Ballroom Imperial Hotel, in conjunction with its 85th anniversary celebration.

Over 850 ex-Josephians and guests are expected at this dinner which will feature illustrious old boys including current Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Taib, an old Josephian himself has consented to be the Patron and would be present with his wife as the guests of honour at the function.

A committee for the grand reunion of old St Josephian led by Winni Pek@Saba has decided to publish the 85th anniversary commemorative book to mark the occasion.

The book will depict the early establishment of the School, the founding fathers, the principals and teachers who had help with the education of students and the development of the school.  It will also include articles on events and anecdotes written by ex-Josephians.

The commemorative book will be launched by the patron on the evening itself.

According to Winni, the committee is carrying out a donation drive towards the organising of the event and for the schools’ projects – installation of new students’ toilets; upgrading of English reading materials for reading hour and shutters for the primary school mini hall.

“It is hoped that ex Josephians who have been very successful in life, and well-wishers, would donate generously to the school that had moulded so many ex-students and contributed to the society of Miri in general,” she added.

Meanwhile, St Joseph’s own brass band and the school’s band ‘Teenagers of the 60s’ will perform during the dinner.  The singers for the evening will be Rose Iwanaga from Kuching, Abdul Rahim SheikhManan, Miri singer of P. Ramlee songs and Miss Jean Marie Druce, an ex Josephian who is presently studying at the Australian Academy of Music and Performance Art in Sydney University.

Miri St Joseph’s Alumni Association also held a fun run on Sept 24 to raise funds for the schools in conjunction of the 85th Anniversary.
