KUCHING: Crocodile warning signs are now being put up at villages, longhouses and schools here, particularly those located near crocodile-infested rivers.
The Forest Department is putting up the warning signs which serve as a reminder to the public to be careful so as to avoid being attacked by crocodiles.
The department’s wildlife deputy controller Engkamat Lading said the initiative to put up the signs came following numerous incidents of crocodiles attacking people living near rivers.
“The crocodile warning signs will be placed along rivers which have been identified to have high crocodile population, to inform the public to be wary of their surroundings,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Engkamat said the department had recently put up eight crocodile warning signs at villages and longhouses along rivers in Betong, Engkilili, Pantu, Sri Aman and Saratok.
“Warning sign is also placed at SK Ijok in Engkilili because the primary school is situated near the river which has high crocodile population.”
