Foreign women sentenced to 15 months in prison for cheating

KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court sentenced two Chinese women and an Indonesian woman, who claimed to be ‘bomoh’, to 15 months in prison for cheating.

Li Ruiwen, Li Jinrong and Agustini pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

They admitted to have dishonestly induced a 57-year-old woman to hand over RM5,091.94 cash, three gold rings, one set of gold earrings and one gold necklace with four lockets on Dec 11 at Siburan Bazaar.

They had cheated the victim of her jewellery items and money with the promise of solving her personal problem.

The Court ordered their custodial sentence to take effect immediately after the sentencing and to be referred to the authorities for deportation upon completion.

Another accused named Fery, who is also an Indonesian, however claimed trial to the charge. The Court set Feb 4 for trial while his case management will be on Jan 23. He was ordered to be further remanded in prison pending the disposal of the case.
