KUCHING: The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) will evict tenants of the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) who default on their monthly rent.

Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali pointed out that HDC only charges a rental of RM150 monthly.

“I was told by HDC that some tenants had not paid their rent for four to five years. For cases like this, sometimes the HDC has to make a decision, by asking them to move out from the house.

“It’s not because HDC is not concerned, but after being given the chance to settle their rent within the required period, they still refused to pay,” she said after handing over the PPR offer letters and keys to fire victims from Kampung Bintawa Hilir and Taman Sukma, as well as successful applicants.

She said the PPR units are for locals, who do not own houses, and low-income families from the squatters.

Sharifah Hasidah reminded PPR tenants, including the 11 new recipients, not to default on their rent.

“It’s only RM150 per month for a unit of house that has three bedrooms.

“As priority has been given to you by HDC, do not forget to pay your rental,” she said.
