MUKAH: The Tellian branch of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth is ready to help those affected by floods there.

Tellian PBB Youth chief Johann Harris Sulaiman said he had informed the party’s sub-branches to be more involved in evacuations and also the distribution of aid rations.

“We’ve informed the sub-branches to help out during emergencies, especially those in Tellian,” he told The Borneo Post’s sister Malay daily Utusan Borneo yesterday.

On Thursday, Johann despatched 10 youth members from PBB Tellian sub-branches to help evacuate flood victims from Rumah Panjang Ibat at Tanjong Pedada.

The Youth members were assisted by their counterparts from Tellian PBB Women.

“We did our best – we brought them (flood vicitms) to the temporary relief centre at Dewan Suarah Mesra Mukah,” he said, adding that his fellow Youth members had also been involved in distributing food rations to flood victims since last month.

This division, especially the Tanjong Pedada area, has been struck by floods since last month.

Almost 2,000 people from 18 longhouses, one village and two schools are affected – they are also cut off from the main road due to inundation.
