KUCHING: Kuching South Mayor Datuk James Chan has suggested preschoolers be taught the value of recycling to better preserve the environment.

He said children must also be taught not to litter.

“The young ones should be taught to recycle and reduce the use of plastic bags,” he said when 150 Sri Keria Kindergarten pupils visited the Kuching South City Council building on Wednesday.

Chan said with proper guidance from a young age, the children would be future leaders who will protect Mother Nature.

He said children who spot adults littering could remind the latter of their obligation to keep the environment clean.

“In the meantime, young children can become our ambassadors of cleanliness. This should help preserve Kuching as a healthy, clean and liveable city for all,” added Chan.

During the visit, the children learnt about the concept of 3R – reduce, reuse, and recycle.
