KUCHING: The search for missing senior citizen Bernabas Lias Jalal entered its third day yesterday, with rescuers able to pinpoint the location of the victim’s submerged vehicle.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) state assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii said despite having located the vehicle, efforts to reach the four-wheel-drive vehicle were hampered by the strong current.
“Bomba scuba divers managed to find the victim’s food container during one of their dives, but we have not been able to reach the submerged vehicle due to poor visibility and strong current,” he said in a statement.
Tiong added that Barnabas’ children confirmed that the food container belonged to him.
The 77-year-old is believed to be trapped inside his vehicle after it plunged off a ferry into Batang Samarahan on Monday morning.
