BANTING: The services of 17,539 permanent and contract employees of the Community Development Department (Kemas) would be retained, said Rural Development Minister Rina Mohd Harun.

She said each of them was urged to focus on their respective duties, especially teachers.

“All Kemas staff were appointed through Public Services Commission, but we found out that about 600 of them are active in politics for a particular party,” she said after visiting a Tabika Kemas in Kampung Olak Lempit here yesterday.

These particular teachers would be given the ultimatum to remain as teachers or resign, she said.

Rina said a meeting with all Kemas staff would be held after Aidilfitri.

Meanwhile, Rina said a new syllabus for Tabika Kemas would be introduced next year.

“The new syllabus, among others, will emphasise the use of English language among Tabika Kemas children.

“Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics will also be introduced through a learn while playing approach to prepare the children to enter Standard One,” she said. — Bernama
