MARUDI: It’s hot and dry here for the past few weeks making the water level in rivers dangerously low.

While most people are unhappy about the situation the fishermen on the other hand are having a good time fishing and collecting fish in the drying rivers.

At the famous Logan Tujuh (lake) here, the fishermen are literally laughing all the way to the bank because the lake is teeming with fish and are easy to catch.

One such fishermen known as Said Mat who has been fishing at the lake came back yesterday morning with a good haul of fish.

Said and his friends brought their catch to the town square garden here, which attracted a stream of customers.

Fishermen from Kuala Tutoh, Tinjar Basin and Batu Belah also brought their catch to the town square for sale. They are making a tidy profit from their ventures

Meanwhile, the Baram River has become so shallow now due to the hot and dry weather, causing an express boat service from Marudi to Long Lama to cease operation.

The water level between Long Terawan and Long Panai is also low causing river transport to stop all together. The people prefer to use land transport to commute between Marudi and Miri.
