Drug raid in Bau nets two women suspects, Syabu seized

BAU: A 47-year-old woman was arrested by the Narcotics and Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) team during a drug raid at a house in Kampung Segong, Bau around 10.45pm on Wednesday.

According to Bau district police chief DSP Sabri Zainol, the suspect is believed to be the mother of a main suspect who is currently still at large.

During the raid, a 20-year-old girl who is believed to be the girlfriend of the main suspect was also arrested by the police in the house.

“A search was conducted and crystal-like substances believed to be Syabu which were packed in three large plastic packets were found in a black bag,” said Zainol to a press conference at the Bau police district headquarters yesterday.

He revealed that the first large plastic packet contained Syabu weighing 20.3 grammes while the second packet contained another seven smaller plastic packets with a total weight of 15.37 grammes.

The third packet he said contained 15 smaller packets with a total weight of 15.14 grammes.

“Our total seizure was 50.18 grammes with an estimated value of RM10,000,” said Zainol adding that the case is being investigated under Section 39 B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Drug tests he said were conducted on both suspects and one of them tested positive for methamphetamine.

The seized drugs he added is believed to be used personally by the suspects and also by drug users in the Bau area.

Both were remanded for seven days to assist in police investigation.

Also seized by the police was a gold necklace worth RM7,000, two sedan cars (RM60,000 and RM40,000), three watches (RM200, RM2,000 and RM500), a silver ring (RM100) and a silver necklace (RM50).

Meanwhile, Sabri revealed that the crime rate index in Bau has decreased by 29 per cent from
35 cases to 25 cases within the same period (Jan to July) last year.

Motorcycle thefts he added recorded the highest number of cases.

“I urge the public to report to the police if they see anyone suspicious entering their area,” said Sabri adding that motorcycle thefts in Bau is rather high due to its proximity to the Malaysian-Indonesian border.
