KUCHING: There is a decline in cases of the communicable hand-food-mouth disease (HFMD) nationwide, said Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

On Tuesday he said that as far as states in Malaysia are concerned, only Perak is still experiencing an increase in the number of cases.

According to the ministry’s statistics, 380 cases were registered on Aug 18 nationwide and that figure is less by 17.5 per cent compared to the one recorded on Aug 11 (461 cases).

On weekly basis, the ministry recorded a decrease by 1,304 cases or 25.4 per cent.

The number of cases recorded between August 12 to 18 was 3,826 and between August 5 to 11 (5,130 cases).

Cumulatively, HFMD cases recorded in Malaysia between January 1 to August 18 were numbered at 53,156.

The good news is there has been no fatal case involving this communicable disease.

Parents are constantly reminded to ensure the cleanliness of their children at all times, especially now during the school holidays.
