SIBU: The 5th leg of the Swan City Cup Snooker Championship has been rescheduled for Jan 6 at Southern Point Snooker Centre here.

Swan City Recreational Club Sibu (SCRCS) chairman Mark Yeo said this was to enable more players to take part.

“Initially, the event is slated for Dec 16 but because it falls on the holiday month, many players will be deprived of the chance to join us,” he explained.

The competition is open to all residents in Sibu.

Yeo said the championship is to promote the game and to ensure that the sport would remain relevant for a long time to come.

He hoped officials from Sarawak Billiards & Snooker Sports Federation (SBSSF) would show more urgency and beef up efforts in promoting the game.

“It has been quite some time since the last state tournament, which was organised by SBSSF,” he said, adding the players are raring to go for another state championship.

The 5th leg of Swan City Cup, organised by Southern Point Snooker Centre is sanctioned by SCRCS which looks after the development of the sport in Sarawak.

The champion will bring home RM800, first runner-up will get RM400, joint third RM200 and quarter-finalists, RM100 each.

The highest break with a minimum of 50 points will get an additional RM200.

Registration can be done at Executive 3 Snooker Centre, Centre Point Snooker Centre and Cueball Snooker Centre.

The closing date is Dec 20.
