SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will hold ‘Countdown 2019’ at Tun Tuanku Bujang Town Square this Monday (Dec 31).
Its chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said SMC will open SMC multi-storey car park at Wong Nai Siong Road from 5.30pm (Dec 31, 2018) until 2am (Jan 1, 2019) for the convenience of the public attending the event.
“We will be extending the car park hours from the usual 5.30pm until 1am,” he said in the press statement during the SMC full council meeting held here yesterday.
SMC deputy chairperson Rogayah Jamain was also present.
Tiong pointed out that the parking rate will remain the same which is RM1 per entry.
“Thus, I would like to call on the people of Sibu to turn up in full force and take part in the countdown,” he enthused.
Tiong said SMC has appointed a well-known and experienced artistic director Chen Ing Kuan to come up with the programmes for the countdown which will include live band, sape, orchestra, singing, dancing and Chinese martial arts performances.
There would also be combined performances from the Malay, Iban and Chinese communities, he added.
“Apart from that, colourful fireworks display will be put up at the stroke of 12 midnight to mark the closing of 2018 and welcome the new year 2019,” he said.
Tiong added Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh will officiate at the event adding the results of the much-awaited Christmas Tree Decoration Competition will also be announced during the ‘Countdown 2019’ .
