Sabah Minister Stephen Wong passes away

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Stephen Wong has passed away today, believed to be due to a heart attack.

He was 65.

Earlier this morning, he went hiking at Tambaig Adventure Park in Kg Duvanson, Putaton. He was with a group on a hiking adventure which started at 6.30am.

According to those on the trek, Wong was trekking along a 3 kilometer route along the Tambaig Adventure Park with other members, including event organiser Benjamin Lo who said that Stephen appeared pale after the trek.

He was said to be the first to finish the trek and was rushing to the airport to attend the ongoing Parliamentary sittings in Kuala Lumpur.

Wong was a two-term MP and chairperson of Sabah DAP.

During the last general election, he retained the Sandakan seat with 19,094 votes, beating the Liberal Democratic Party who garnered 8,996 votes.
