BINTULU: Several longhouses in Separai and Selitut area in Tatau district have been experiencing water shortage for the past three months.
The situation is made worse by the hot and dry season which almost dried up the only raw water intake in the area.
According to a spokesman from PKR Tatau Service Centre, Wong Hien Ping, the longhouse folks have been suffering very badly for months.
“We are requesting the relevant authority to send us enough water, if possible on a daily basis to meet the needs of the locals,” he said.
Even in the Tatau town area, he said, the residents are complaining of low water pressure especially during peak hours.
Wong said he was informed that even the Tatau clinic complained of water disruption as early as 8.30am.
One of the residents, Badol Luang from Sg Sap, said this is the worst water shortage he has experienced.
Though the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) had been transporting water in tanks to the area several times, the supply was not sufficient
“It is not enough even for one longhouse because of our huge population. We have actually been facing this problem for many years now,” he added.
He thus hoped the relevant agency could provide the affected residents with sufficient water.
