SANDAKAN: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sandakan aims to break the record of the largest alumni reunion in the Malaysia Book of Records in November.

Organising chairwoman Zarina Azis said the organiser, VRG Trading, would be aiming for at least 3,200 ex-students to show up for the reunion at a date to be announced soon.

She said the aim would break the record of the current record holder, Penang Free School.

School principal Yap Kok Yam said he supported the initiative done by the school alumni and said the school was indeed one of the most famous schools in Sandakan.

He pointed out that many leaders as well as professionals today are graduates of the school, including the current Head of State, Tun Juhar  Mahiruddin.

Former students of SMK Sandakan, who are interested to join the event, can contact Zarina at 019-5828974 or Arni Indon at 019-2498906.

Meanwhile, Zarina presented a donation of RM2,800 to the school for the purchase of books for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students this year. The donation was presented in the form of a mock cheque which was received by the head of SMK Sandakan’s Parents and Students Association, Datuk Awang Kadin Tang.
