Ahmad Ibrahim says Lim’s statement irresponsible

KUCHING: Lim Guan Eng’s speculation that Sarawak will go bankrupt in three years’ time under the rule of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) goes to show how irresponsible the Finance Minister was when making the allegation.

PBB Supreme Council member Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said not only was his allegation wrong, it is also confusing and could frighten off investors.

“The Finance Minister should rectify his statement and apologise to the people of Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole, because his statement can cause
local and foreign investors to lose confidence and shy away from the state thus affecting the country’s economy.

“This is a very serious allegation. He should be fired because what he said can bring catastrophe to the financial health of the country,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ahmad, who is also Padawan Municipal
Council (MPP) deputy chairman, also chided the secretary-general of DAP for insulting the Sarawak government’s efforts in developing the state’s rural areas.

“He does not want Sarawak’s rural areas to be developed and rather have these areas remain underdeveloped and poor…this is the agenda of DAP,” he claimed.

He also described Lim as a failure as the Finance Minister as the country’s economy has taken a turn for the worse after Pakatan Harapan (PH) took over Putrajaya.

He stressed that Lim ought to realise that Sarawak is a state which has recorded the best economic achievement in Malaysia, beating Penang as shown in the Auditor-General’s report.

“During the 14th General Election, he said Malaysia was going bankrupt because of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak but after winning the election, the economy has gotten worse.

“Now that Sarawak will soon have its State Election, he now claims that the state is going bankrupt.

“This is the same tactic,” he said.
