Fire fighters putting out the embers at the last section of the forest fire at Kejatau-Lingga forest in Sri Aman yesterday.
KUCHING: The last forest fire in Sri Aman was finally extinguished at the Kejatau- Lingga forest after ten days of relentless efforts by multiple agencies headed by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
Bomba Sarawak assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii said the operation fully ended at 2.52pm yesterday.
“Yesterday, the fire fighting was focused on the remaining hot spots which are estimated to be about 4.5 acres in total,” said Tiong in a statement.
He said the forest fire affected about 610 acres of land.
During the operation, a total of 62 personnel were on the ground, led by operations commander Nik Muhammad Afiq Nik Roslan.
Bomba deployed two prime movers to pump water from the Batang Lupar river, two fire rescue trucks and seven excavators during the entire operation.
Among the agencies involved in the operation were the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency, Civil Defence Force, Armed Forces, Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Public Works Department, Meteorological Department as well as members of the public.
As of press time, the operation to put out forest fires was still ongoing at Jalan Tisak, Betong and behind the Eastwood golf course in Miri which entered its second day yesterday.
